Bauchi police are currently seeking the whereabouts of the controversial Islamic cleric, Idris Abdul’azeez, on charges of ‘Contempt of Court.’ In a Special Gazette Bulletin issued by the order of the Inspector-General of Police on Thursday, February 8, the police urged individuals with any information regarding the 63-year-old cleric to report to the state police command or the nearest police station.
Abdul’azeez is described by the police as having a dark complexion, slim build, with a diamond-shaped face, brown eyes, and grey hair. He was last seen at Dutsen Tanshi in Bauchi state.
A “handsome reward” awaits anyone providing information leading to Abdul’azeez’s arrest, as stated in the notice.
Reports indicate that Abdul’aziz is currently facing trial for alleged offences including incitement of public disturbance of peace and blasphemy. Allegations against him include uttering blasphemous comments against Prophet Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him) and some notable Dariqa clerics during one of his Ramadan Tafsir sessions.
