Zamfara Appoints First Commandant for Community Protection Guard

In a move aimed at bolstering local security measures, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has officially named retired Lieutenant Colonel Rabi’u Yandoto as the inaugural State Commandant of the newly-established Community Protection Guards (CPG). This announcement was made public by the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Abubakar Nakwada, during a statement released on Friday in Gusau.

Accompanying the appointment of Lt. Col. Rabi’u Yandoto are two distinguished retired Majors, Muhammad Adamu and Ahmed Shinkafi, who will respectively undertake roles as Deputy and Assistant State Commandants. The division of responsibilities sees Adamu taking charge of administration, while Shinkafi will oversee logistics operations.

Additionally, the statement highlights the assignment of Guards Commanders to each of the 14 Local Government Areas within the state, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to grassroots security enhancement.

The recent announcement comes in tandem with the successful training and deployment of 2,645 CPG members across Zamfara State. These members have been strategically positioned to engage in community policing duties, marking a proactive effort by the state government to address local security concerns.
