Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara has appointed MD Abubakar, a former Inspector General of Police, as the chairman of the newly formed security trust fund in the state. The governor, addressing the 21-member board during their inauguration ceremony, reiterated his administration’s dedication to eradicating banditry and other criminal activities within Zamfara.
Sulaiman Idris, the governor’s spokesperson, conveyed in a statement issued in Gusau that the establishment of the fund aims to pool resources and bolster the government’s efforts in combating ongoing insecurity.
Emphasizing the critical need for fundraising to bolster government initiatives addressing the persistent security challenges, the governor underscored that the decision to create the Trust Fund stemmed from recognizing the alarming security situation’s nationwide ramifications, particularly in Zamfara.
The governor highlighted the devastating toll of criminal activities, resulting in loss of lives, destruction of livelihoods, and severe economic repercussions across vital sectors such as agriculture, education, health, and commerce.
To ensure the board’s effectiveness and integrity in fulfilling its duties, the governor meticulously selected individuals with proven integrity, many of whom possess extensive experience in security from both public and private sectors. MD Abubakar, Mni, CFR, a retired Inspector General of Police, serves as chairman, alongside other distinguished members.
In his address, Mr. Abubakar urged Zamfara residents to unite in overcoming security challenges, emphasizing the collective responsibility in supporting the fund’s efforts for the state’s future. He reassured commitment to enhancing safety and security measures in Zamfara.
