The Federal Government has declared Mrs. Adachukwu Kukelu Okafor, an Anambra lawyer, wanted and placed a N2 million bounty on her for allegedly burning the private parts and body of her 10-year-old maid.
Video footage showing the young girl with burns on her private parts, face, and body went viral on social media, sparking widespread condemnation.
Minister for Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, stated at a press conference in Abuja yesterday that the perpetrator, believed to be a lawyer, has been on the run since the incident occurred.
She mentioned that the suspect changed her contact information but continued to post on social media, claiming impunity while the young girl suffered in the hospital.
Kennedy-Ohanenye emphasized the urgency of apprehending Okafor, urging Nigerians to assist in her capture. She announced a N2 million reward from the Women Affairs Ministry for anyone who finds Okafor, hands her over to the police, aids in her capture, or provides information leading to her arrest.
Highlighting the severity of the situation, she stressed the need for immediate action to alleviate the girl’s suffering and prevent similar incidents in the future.
Kennedy-Ohanenye also announced plans to address the issue of underage house helps, promising to enforce laws prohibiting their employment. She encouraged whistleblowers to come forward with information on such cases or instances of wage withholding, assuring swift intervention by the ministry.
