In a recent development, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has unveiled the outcomes of the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination for private candidates nationwide.
Acting Head of Public Affairs at WAEC Nigeria, Moyosola Adesina, disclosed this in a statement released on Tuesday evening.
Out of the 80,904 candidates who participated in the examination, a commendable 46,267 managed to secure a minimum of five credits, representing 57.19% of the total candidates.
Remarkably, 35,830 candidates, equivalent to 44.29%, achieved the significant milestone of obtaining credit and above in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
Adesina further revealed that the examination took place in Nigeria from October 27, 2023, to December 20, 2023. The coordination of examiners and marking of candidates’ scripts occurred across seven marking venues in Lagos, Ibadan, Akure, Benin, Enugu, Uyo, and Kaduna from January 16 to January 30, 2024. A total of 4,162 examiners participated in the exercise.
Encouragingly, there was a notable increase in candidate participation, with 85,600 candidates registering for the examination, marking a 10.07% increase from the previous year’s figure of 77,768. The examination was conducted at 568 centers nationwide.
Special accommodations were also made for 211 candidates with diverse special needs, including visual impairment, impaired hearing, and albinism, ensuring their fair participation in the examination.
WAEC management has urged candidates to promptly check their results on www.waecdirect.org and proceed to the Digital Certificate platform (www.waec.org) to access their digital certificates, now available alongside their results.
