FG Pledges To Resume Payment Of ₦35,000 Wage Award To Workers

The Federal Government has assured the public service workers of the resumption of payment for the N35,000 wage award this week.

Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, conveyed this assurance during a meeting with the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress in Abuja.

In a statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Olajide Oshundun, Onyejeocha urged the labour organisations to reconsider their ultimatum as efforts to complete the implementation of the agreement are underway.

The meeting aimed to update the labour centres on the agreement’s progress and reaffirm government commitment.

On the procurement of CNG buses, Michael Oluwagbemi stated that 70% payment has been made, with plans to start assembling buses and tricycles locally between March and April 2024.

The meeting agreed on a joint inspection visit to the Port Harcourt Refinery to confirm progress.

While acknowledging the labour organisations’ concerns, Onyejeocha emphasized the government’s sincerity and promised to fulfill its obligations.

NLC President, Joe Ajaero, urged the government to meet the ultimatum deadline, emphasizing the need for mutual commitment.

TUC’s First Deputy President, Tommy Okon, echoed concerns about the gradual implementation of the agreement, stressing the importance of prompt action.
