Reps To Investigate Utilization Of States’ Increased FAAC Allocations

The House of Representatives has initiated a probe into the utilization of funds allocated to states by the Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC). This decision, reached during a plenary session on Tuesday, comes amidst concerns over the effectiveness of state spending.

The motion, introduced by Ademorin Kuye, representing Shomolu Federal Constituency, Lagos State, highlighted the significant rise in funds distributed to states, attributed to various economic policies implemented by the administration led by President Bola Tinubu.

Kuye expressed worry over the persistent poverty affecting millions of citizens, despite the substantial increase in state allocations. He pointed out challenges such as salary payment delays, inadequate management of public institutions, and soaring unemployment rates in some states.

In response to these concerns, the House assigned its Committees on Special Duties, National Planning and Economic Development, and Inter-Governmental Affairs to investigate the spending patterns of states and report their findings within four weeks for further legislative action.
