President Bola Tinubu has called for an emergency meeting with Governors of the Federation, convening at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja.
Present at the meeting are Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FTC), and Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
The agenda of the meeting remains undisclosed; however, sources indicate it pertains to tackling the rising cost of food items, insecurity, and other economic challenges.
In response to the crisis, Tinubu has tasked his economic team and relevant officials with finding solutions. Additionally, the Special Presidential Committee on Emergency has been authorized to release 102,000 metric tons of assorted items, including rice, maize, and millet.
The outcome of the ongoing emergency meeting is anticipated to offer strategies for alleviating the surge in food prices, insecurity, and broader economic issues.
The situation has triggered protests among women and youth and has led to an escalation in criminal activities, heightening tension in the nation.
Governors from Ekiti, Delta, Borno, Lagos, Kwara, Nasarawa, and Edo were observed entering the Council Chambers for the crucial deliberations.
Notably, Governors from Yobe, Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Abia, Plateau, Kaduna, Sokoto, Niger, Taraba, Adamawa, Cross River, Ogun, and Enugu were also spotted in attendance.
Following the emergency meeting, the session will transition seamlessly into the monthly National Economic Council (NEC) meeting, chaired by Vice President Shettima.
