Zamfara Assembly Member Extends Aid to Family Surviving on Potato Leaves

Amidst soaring inflation rates, Ibrahim Wambai, a member of the Zamfara House of Assembly representing Gusau 1, has stepped in to support the struggling family of Malam Ibrahim, his wife Rashida, and their six children.

The family, captured in a viral video posted on social media via Maibiredi TV Channel consuming ‘Potato Leaves’ due to economic hardships, received assistance including housing and empowerment items from Wambai, according to Hassan Abdullahi Gusau, the Ward Head of ‘Yar Dantse community, a suburb of Gusau, Zamfara state capital’.

Before the intervention, the family endured diseases and lived in appalling conditions without proper shelter. Ibrahim, afflicted with Tuberculosis, expressed his inability to work, stating that their hide and skin business had collapsed, leaving them reliant on scavenging and selling manure for sustenance.

The children faced hardships including sleeping on bare sand and forgoing education to assist their mother in menial tasks.

Ibrahim appealed to the government and Nigerians for further assistance to prevent their descent into destitution.

This dire situation is a stark reflection of Nigeria’s escalating inflation, currently standing at 28.92%, with food inflation peaking at 33.93%, the highest since mid-1996.

As Nigeria grapples with widespread poverty, the exacerbation of inflation threatens to plunge more families into similar hardships.
