PDP Govs Urge APC To Step Down If They Can’t Solve Nigeria’s Problems

Governors from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have called on the Federal Government, led by the All Progressives Congress, to step aside if it fails to coordinate all levels of governance effectively to tackle the economic challenges facing Nigerians.

Recent increases in food prices and economic hardships have placed significant strain on citizens’ ability to afford basic necessities.

Led by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, the PDP governors warned of Nigeria heading down a similar path to Venezuela under the current administration.

In response, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, denounced the comparison, highlighting failures by some PDP governors to meet obligations such as minimum wage payments, gratuities, and pensions.

The Director-General of the PDP Governors Forum, Cyril Maduabum, defended the governors’ stance, emphasizing their commitment to offering constructive advice and solutions to national challenges.

Acknowledging efforts by APC leader Tinubu to address the issues, the forum urged swift implementation of resolutions from a recent meeting organized by Tinubu.

The statement underscored the shared responsibility of all tiers of government to alleviate the hardship facing Nigerians, with a call for the APC-led Federal Government to take decisive action or gracefully step down.

Criticizing attempts to discredit their intervention, the forum highlighted the positive impact of PDP-governed states’ developmental initiatives and emphasized the need for cooperative federalism to overcome the crisis.

Ultimately, the forum expressed hope that President Buhari’s leadership would lead Nigeria out of its current challenges, while affirming their commitment to collaborative efforts towards national development.
