Bandits kill nine, abduct ex-CBN Director, 34 others in fresh Kaduna attacks

Bandits have once again unleashed terror in Kaduna State, targeting communities in Kwasam, Kauru LGA, and Gwada, Igabi LGA. The attacks resulted in the tragic loss of at least nine lives and the abduction of 35 individuals. Among the abducted are a retired Director of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), his brother, and the brother’s wife. Additionally, nine people sustained injuries during the violent assaults across the two local government areas.

In Kauru LGA, six lives were lost, five individuals were taken captive, and two sustained injuries. Meanwhile, in Igabi LGA, three fatalities were recorded, with seven injured and 30 others abducted. The horrific incident unfolded around 10 pm when bandits raided the communities, specifically targeting the residence of the retired CBN staff. Despite efforts by residents to rescue the victims, the bandits opened fire, resulting in six deaths and two injuries. Among the deceased were Danmasani Gwaska, Mrs. Giwa John, Kapishi Barmu, Ganya Ubangida, Shigama Salisu, and Gani Magawata. The kidnapped include Mr. Zakariya Markus (retired CBN director), Mr. Monday Markus (his brother), Mrs. Monday Markus (wife of Monday), Mr. Alhamdu Makeri’s son, and Baban Fati of Kauru.

Kaduna Governor Uba Sani has strongly advocated for aggressive military operations against bandits in the state in the wake of these attacks. He extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and assured them of ongoing efforts to tackle the security challenges. Security forces are actively engaged in operations within the affected areas, with Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, affirming the governor’s commitment to sustained military operations in frontline locations like Kauru LGA.
