BREAKING: Tinubu Appoints Hafsat Bakari To Lead NFIU

President Bola Tinubu has named Hafsat Bakari as the new Director/CEO of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit, subject to Senate confirmation.

Bakari takes over from Modibbo Tukur, who was removed from the position by Tinubu in June 2023.

In a statement by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, Bakari, a seasoned lawyer and financial intelligence expert, is praised for her extensive background in anti-money laundering, counter-terrorism financing, and counter-proliferation financing.

Prior to her appointment, Bakari served as Deputy Director at the NFIU, holding various leadership positions within the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Tinubu expects Bakari to utilize her expertise effectively in combating illicit financial activities, aligning with his administration’s commitment to curbing financial malpractices in the country’s foreign exchange markets.
