House Of Reps Call for Prompt Investigation into Zamfara Killings

Amidst the ongoing violence and destruction of property in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, the House of Representatives has voiced its concern and called for immediate action.

During Tuesday’s plenary session, a member of the House from Zamfara State, Hassan Shinkafi, brought forth a motion urging for urgent attention to the situation.

Shinkafi highlighted the severity of the attacks, emphasizing the economic hardship faced by citizens in the region. He noted significant losses in property, including shops, houses, motorcycles, and foodstuffs, as well as casualties, including two police officers.

In response, the House has called upon the Inspector General of Police to establish a specialized investigative team to uncover the perpetrators behind the recurring attacks, with a report expected within two weeks.

Additionally, the House has appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency to provide immediate relief assistance to affected individuals and families.

Furthermore, recognizing the need for enhanced security measures, the House has urged the Federal Government to deploy additional military personnel to the affected areas to prevent further violence.

The House has also tasked relevant committees to ensure the implementation of these directives, underscoring the seriousness of the situation.

Meanwhile, in a separate effort to address the security challenges in the state, Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has launched a State Community Protection Guards comprising 2,969 personnel. Lawal emphasized the importance of the initiative in combating banditry and called upon the guards to fulfill their duties diligently for its success.
