Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, the Governor of Sokoto State, has doubled the allowance for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in the state.
The increment sees the allowance rise from N5,000 to N10,000 for the duration of their one-year service.
Governor Aliyu made the announcement during the swearing-in ceremony of Batch ‘A’ stream 1 corps members posted to Sokoto and Zamfara states.
He emphasized the significance of the NYSC scheme to national and state development and pledged continuous support from his administration.
Furthermore, Governor Aliyu donated N10,000 to each corps member undergoing orientation in Sokoto and Zamfara states as a welcome gesture.
He urged the corps members to uphold unity and treat all citizens as fellow Nigerians regardless of ethnic or religious affiliations.
The Chairperson of the NYSC Governing Board, Muhammad Bello, commended the governor for promptly disbursing state allowances and encouraged corps members to maintain discipline throughout their service.
State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr. Usman Yaro, expressed gratitude for the governor’s support and acknowledged the contributions of various stakeholders in ensuring a successful orientation exercise.
The event concluded with the administration of national and NYSC oaths by the state Chief Judge, Justice Muhammad Saidu Sifawa, represented by Justice Ibrahim Tambuwal.
