DSS Appeals to Labour Leaders to Suspend Planned Protests

The Department of State Services (DSS) has called on organised labour to halt its scheduled protests against the current economic conditions in the nation.

Labour had initiated mobilisation for a nationwide protest set for February 27 and 28, citing the escalating cost of living crisis.

Despite the government’s failure to meet its commitments following Labour’s ultimatum, the DSS, in a statement by its spokesperson Peter Afunanya, implored the union to reconsider its plan for the sake of peace and public order.

The secret service emphasized the importance of dialogue and negotiation over actions that could exacerbate tensions, cautioning against potential exploitation of the protests to incite violence and further destabilize the socio-economic climate.

Moreover, the DSS underscored the collective efforts of government and stakeholders to address prevailing challenges, urging citizens to allow authorities the opportunity to tackle the current difficulties through peaceful means.

In light of potential repercussions, the DSS urged restraint from actions that could endanger national stability and unity, calling upon all sectors, including parents, political parties, religious and traditional institutions, civil society, and the general public, to prioritize peace and unity during these trying times.

The DSS reiterated its stance against violence and pledged collaboration with other security agencies to maintain peace and security across the country.
