Jubilation As Fed Workers Received Four Months ₦35,000 Wage Award

Yesterday, the Presidency announced that Federal Government workers have received a wage award of ₦35,000 for four months, part of measures aimed at mitigating the impact of the removal of petrol subsidy.

According to an official tweet, the remaining balance of ₦35,000 for two months is currently being calculated and will be disbursed soon.

Additionally, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, briefed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on these developments.

The tweet also outlined the Federal Government’s compliance with agreements made with organized labor in October, including:

• The Minimum Wage Committee has convened two meetings with ongoing discussions.
• The government suspended Value Added Tax (VAT) on diesel since October last year.
• Substantial financial commitments have been made for the provision of CNG buses and conversion kits, with plans for imminent rollout.
• The leadership crises in NURTW and RTEAN have been resolved amicably, with the Lagos State Government tasked to address the matter.
• Outstanding salaries for four months to ASUU have been fully paid, with ongoing actions for other unions.
• Over 3 million households, including vulnerable pensioners, have benefited from monthly conditional cash transfers totaling N68.3 billion before the program’s temporary suspension.
• Significant progress has been made in fertilizer distribution to boost agricultural production.
• Various state governments and the private sector are being engaged to ensure compliance with wage awards for their workers.
• Plans are underway to release funds to accelerate job creation in Micro and Small Enterprises.
• A joint visitation by the government and Organized Labour confirmed 80% completion of the Port-Harcourt Refinery, with production of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) expected to commence before the end of the year.
