Oyo State Governor and Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Seyi Makinde, has refuted the statement made by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, claiming that states received an additional N30 billion each to address food insecurity. Makinde clarified that Oyo State has not received such funds from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) or the Federal Government.
He emphasized his administration’s commitment to transparency and urged leaders to inspire confidence and hope in the people during challenging times instead of playing the blame game.
Speaking at the commissioning of the newly-renovated Iseyin Central Mosque, Makinde highlighted that the only funds received from the Federal Government outside of statutory allocations was N2 billion, part of the N5 billion promised to all states following the removal of fuel subsidy. He noted that the Federal Government has requested the refund of the N2 billion.
Makinde also outlined the various measures his administration has taken to alleviate economic hardship, including implementing the Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER) program. He stressed the importance of unity and constructive solutions, urging leaders to listen to the people and adjust policies accordingly.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, commended Makinde for his leadership and urged continued prayers for the country’s leaders and citizens. Raji, the facilitator of the mosque renovation project, also expressed gratitude to the governor for his support.
