Nationwide Protest: Sokoto NLC Urges Gov Aliyu to Fulfill Promises

Comrade Abdullahi Jungle, Chairman of the Sokoto State chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress, has urged the government to promptly implement wage awards for state civil servants.

Speaking to reporters following the national protest organized by the union’s national secretariat, Jungle also called for the distribution of palliatives.

The rally, beginning at the union’s state secretariat, proceeded from Miyetti Allah roundabout to the government house before concluding at the secretariat.

Jungle appealed to the Federal Government to halt the further devaluation of the naira, attributing it to the current economic hardship.

“We are grateful for today’s peaceful protest and appreciate the support of the security forces,” he said.

“We urge the government, especially the Sokoto State government, to promptly pay wage awards to our members and fulfill promises to provide palliatives to civil servants to alleviate hunger,” he added.

Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, the Nigerian Union of Journalists, and Medical and Health Workers Practitioners, among others, also participated in the national protest.
