UPDATE: NLC Suspends Protest, Issues Fresh 14-Day Ultimatum to FG

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has decided to suspend its planned protest scheduled for Wednesday, citing significant progress made during the first day of the protest.

In a joint statement by President Joe Ajaero and Acting General Secretary Ismail Bello, the NLC announced that while street actions are paused for the day, nationwide activities will continue tomorrow with simultaneous press conferences across all states, including the National Headquarters.

The decision comes with a fresh ultimatum of 14 days to the Federal Government, ending on March 13, for the full implementation of the agreements reached on October 2, 2023, along with other demands outlined during Tuesday’s nationwide protest.

The NLC had mobilized workers, civil society affiliates, and State Councils for the protest to address the prevailing hardships and insecurity in the nation. Despite the protests in various cities, official activities remained largely unaffected.

The statement reiterated the NLC’s commitment to defending and advancing the interests of Nigerian workers and the marginalized masses. Should the government fail to comply within the stipulated time frame, further actions will be decided upon by the NLC’s leadership.
