In a display of unwavering integrity, troops from Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), tasked with maintaining peace in Plateau State and surrounding areas, refused a ₦1.5 million bribe offered by suspected cattle rustlers.
According to Capt. James Oya, the Media Officer of the operation, troops stationed at Sector four intercepted two suspected rustlers who attempted to bribe them.
Oya emphasized that the eight personnel involved in rejecting the bribe received praise and rewards from Maj.-Gen. Abdusalam Abubakar, the commander of the operation.
The incident unfolded as troops intercepted 30 rustled cows at a checkpoint near Bisichi in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
The cattle, belonging to Shehu Umar and stolen in Mangu, were being transported when stopped by the troops during a routine operation.
The suspects, identified as Anas Usman, aged 20, and Gyang Cholly, aged 42, attempted to bribe the troops for a security pass for the stolen cattle.
Despite the tempting offer, the troops stood firm, refusing the bribe and proceeding to arrest the suspects along with the bribe money.
Commending the troops for their courage and integrity, the commander stressed the importance of upholding such values in their duties.
He urged personnel from all security agencies to emulate this example, contributing to the safety and security of lives and property in the state.
