Matawalle Calls for Heightened Military Operations in Zamfara, Kaduna, Katsina

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has called on the military to intensify operations against terrorists and bandits in the northwest.

He expressed concern over the persistent insecurity caused by the activities of terrorists and bandits, particularly in Kaduna, Katsina, and Zamfara states. These attacks have resulted in casualties among personnel, loss of lives, and destruction of military equipment, necessitating a stronger military presence.

In a statement on Friday, March 1, the minister also instructed the military to take a more proactive approach to combatting banditry and insecurity in the region.

He emphasized the importance of cooperation among the Services to eradicate insurgency and other forms of criminality in the region.

“The safety and well-being of our citizens are paramount, and decisive action must be taken to combat terrorism and banditry in our communities,” Matawalle said.

Highlighting the operations’ broader significance, the minister stressed their role in creating a conducive environment for agricultural activities.

“Improved security in the region will not only protect lives and property but also enhance farming and irrigation. Farmers will be able to cultivate their lands without fear of attacks, ensuring food security and economic prosperity for the region,” he said.

Matawalle called on communities to support security agencies in their efforts to eliminate criminal elements from the region.
