Renowned Nollywood figure Mr Ibu, whose real name was John Okafor, has passed away at the age of 62. Reports indicate that he died at Evercare Hospital. Fans are flooding social media platforms with condolences and fond memories of his work.
Details about the cause of death remain unclear, and Mr Ibu’s family and representatives have not issued a statement yet.
The actor had been facing health challenges since October 2023, including undergoing multiple surgeries and the amputation of his leg. Although there were signs of recovery in November, his health took a turn for the worse.
His passing comes shortly after the death of another Nollywood veteran, Quadri Oyebamiji, known as Sisi Quadri.
In previous years, Mr Ibu had claimed to have been poisoned multiple times, alleging that it was due to envy from his kinsmen.
Despite his challenges, Mr Ibu expressed gratitude for his recovery in an interview, crediting divine intervention for his second chance at life.
Numerous figures from the Nollywood community have paid tribute to him by lighting candles in his memory.
