No Room For Relocation, NYSC DG tells Corps Members

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Yusha’u Ahmed, has encouraged corps members to embrace their deployment locations and contribute to the growth and development of their assigned states instead of seeking redeployment.

Speaking to Batch A Stream 1 corps members during a cultural carnival at the Anambra State orientation camp, Ahmed emphasized the importance of respecting the host community’s culture and traditions while prioritizing their security.

He advised, “Remain peaceful and resilient as you add value to the community you’re posted to. Your security is our concern, but no one can secure you more than yourself. Take time to read the instructions in your manual and abide by them accordingly.”

Ahmed underscored the significance of skill acquisition and entrepreneurial development within the NYSC Scheme, urging corps members to leverage the program to become self-reliant and create job opportunities after their service year.

He stated, “Skills acquisition is designed to make you independent and productive. The federal government is committed to supporting and empowering youths to stand on their own. Many of your predecessors have benefitted from such opportunities and are now independent.”

The NYSC boss, honored with the chieftaincy title of Dike Ora I of Umuawulu by Igwe Joel Egwuonwu, the traditional ruler of the camp’s community, reiterated the importance of respecting host communities’ cultures and traditions, emphasizing unity and diversity.

He also pledged continued partnership with state governments to enhance camp facilities, especially accommodating the increasing number of corps members graduating annually.
