Professor Mahfouz Adedimeji, the Vice-Chancellor of Ahman Pategi University in Kwara State, emphasized the importance of accepting responsibility and moving away from the blame game amidst the challenges of soaring living costs in Nigeria. Adedimeji urged both Nigerians and state governors to actively contribute to improving the economy and finding solutions to the prevailing economic difficulties.
Addressing a public lecture marking the first anniversary of Professor Olayinka Karim’s tenure as Vice-Chancellor of Fountain University in Osogbo, Osun State, Adedimeji advocated for a servant leadership approach to tackle the nation’s current leadership challenges.
He highlighted the necessity of prioritizing the welfare of citizens over political interests, stressing the importance of courage, sacrifice, empathy, discipline, and a focus on the needs of the people. Adedimeji appealed to leaders to address the immediate needs of the populace, acknowledging the discomfort that may accompany necessary reforms.
Furthermore, Adedimeji called on Nigerians to refrain from engaging in the blame game and instead focus on individual actions and solutions. He emphasized the role of every citizen as a leader and urged introspection before looking to national leadership for solutions. Adedimeji underscored the need for societal transformation, emphasizing that leaders are a reflection of the society they serve.
In her address, Professor Karim drew inspiration from pioneering figures like Professor Grace Alele-Williams, the country’s first female Vice-Chancellor, in her pursuit of leadership. She highlighted her commitment to service and pledged to continue enhancing Fountain University’s reputation on the global stage.
