Bauchi Assembly Speaker, Deputy Voluntarily Resign, New Leadership Elected

The Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Babayo Mohammed Akuyam, along with his Deputy, Ahmed Abdullahi, have voluntarily resigned from their positions.

The Speaker, representing Hardawa Constituency, and the Deputy, from Dass constituency, officially announced their resignation during a plenary session.

The outgoing Speaker and his Deputy stated that their resignation is part of an agreement reached by the lawmakers to pave the way for Abubakar Sulaimen Jamilu Darihu to assume the role of Speaker.

They expressed gratitude to their colleagues and the assembly staff for their support during their tenure.

Consequently, the house promptly re-elected Abubakar Y. Sulaiman as the Speaker and Jamilu Umaru Dahiru as the new Deputy Speaker.

In his acceptance speech, the reelected Speaker, Abubakar Y. Sulaiman, thanked the outgoing Speaker and Deputy for their mature approach to legislative duties.

He pledged to continue providing effective legislation to enhance the lives of the citizens.

It’s worth noting that last year, the appeal court nullified the elections of four members of the state assembly, ordering a re-run in certain polling units in their constituencies.
