Fed Govt Threatens to Revoke DisCos’ Licenses Over Poor Power Supply

In response to ongoing issues of inadequate power supply, the Federal Government has issued a stern warning to Distribution Companies (DisCos), threatening to revoke their licenses.

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, emphasized this stance during a recent announcement, revealing plans to convene a crucial meeting with key executives from Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, and the Transmission Company of Nigeria.

The purpose of the meeting is to address the persistent challenges affecting power distribution nationwide and collaboratively devise effective solutions.

Despite efforts to increase power generation, DisCos have been criticized for their failure to efficiently distribute electricity, exacerbated by vandalism of power infrastructure in regions such as Abuja, Benin, Port Harcourt, and Ibadan.

Minister Adelabu reiterated the government’s commitment to holding DisCos accountable for their performance, warning of severe consequences including license revocation for willful non-performance.

Furthermore, the Transmission Company of Nigeria has been instructed to prioritize repair works on damaged infrastructure to enhance power supply in affected areas.

Efforts are also underway to settle outstanding debts owed to power generation and gas supply companies, with the aim of improving generation levels nationwide.

Minister Adelabu urged electricity consumers to remain patient as the government works diligently to address these issues and enhance service delivery for all Nigerians.
