S’Court Justices Deserve Monthly Salary of At Least ₦15m — Adeyanju

Deji Adeyanju, a human rights activist, has highlighted the need for better welfare for members of the judiciary, particularly the Supreme Court justices, stating that they should earn no less than ₦15 million monthly.

Adeyanju emphasized his commitment to using legal means to ensure improved remuneration for justices, asserting that a monthly salary of ₦3 million for a Supreme Court Justice is inadequate and leaves the judiciary vulnerable to corruption.

In a statement titled “My commitment to Nigerians as I joined the largest bar in Africa,” Adeyanju pledged to utilize his legal knowledge and resources to advocate for the rights of the oppressed, including providing pro bono legal services for those unable to afford representation.

A retiring Supreme Court Justice, Musa Dattijo, had previously expressed concern over the declining quality of judicial services due to inadequate funding, noting that the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court earns more than the justices, which he found troubling.

Dattijo urged for a review of the salary structure to ensure that justices are adequately compensated, suggesting that the salary gap between justices and the Chief Registrar be addressed.
