President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged state governors to promptly implement wage awards to alleviate economic hardship among citizens, stressing the importance of providing relief without fueling inflation.
Addressing the audience in Minna during the launch of an agricultural mechanization initiative and the reopening of the remodeled domestic terminal at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport, Tinubu emphasized the necessity for all states to adopt the wage awards, with plans for National Executive Council endorsement.
Tinubu assured the public of forthcoming measures to address economic challenges, including student loans, unemployment benefits, and social security programs for vulnerable groups.
Additionally, Tinubu outlined plans to mitigate violent attacks and cattle rustling through the Livestock Change program, aiming to transform challenges into economic opportunities.
Acknowledging the commitment of Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago to agricultural development, Tinubu pledged federal support for infrastructure projects and food security initiatives in the state.
In his remarks, Governor Bago underscored agriculture’s pivotal role in addressing economic challenges and outlined ambitious plans to enhance agricultural productivity and food security in Niger State, including partnerships with other states and private sector investments.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of growing and consuming locally produced food, highlighting collaborative efforts among states to enhance food security, with Lagos poised to lead in food storage infrastructure.
The event was attended by governors from Benue, Kogi, Kwara, and Osun states, along with federal and state legislators and ministers of agriculture and food security.
