Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua (APC – Katsina Central) has been elected as the new chairman of the Northern Senators’ Forum (NSF), replacing Senator Abdul Ningi (PDP-Bauchi Central).
The change in leadership occurred after Ningi resigned from his position on Tuesday, following his three-month suspension by the Senate. Ningi was suspended for making false claims that the 2024 Appropriation Act was padded with N3.7 trillion.
However, Senator Solomon Adeola, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, clarified that the provisions Ningi referred to as padding were actually for statutory transfers to government organs on direct line charge.
The NSF officially announced Yar’Adua’s appointment in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, which was read on the Senate floor during plenary.
