The Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has handed down a life imprisonment sentence to Nurudeen Nasiru for the grave offenses of introducing pornographic material to his neighbor’s 13-year-old daughter and sexually assaulting her.
The crimes took place on February 23, 2021, at approximately 3:45 pm on Aminu Street, Alapere, Ketu. Justice Abiola Soladoye, after careful consideration, found the prosecution’s case solid and established beyond reasonable doubt the two charges of defilement and indecent treatment of a child against the defendant.
During the trial, it was revealed that Nasiru not only sexually assaulted the young girl but also exposed her to explicit pornographic videos. Justice Soladoye highlighted that the defendant, a neighbor, would enter the survivor’s room, show her inappropriate videos on his phone, and then coerce her into replicating the acts depicted.
In a damning revelation, the defendant confessed to engaging in sexual intercourse with the survivor, further solidifying the prosecution’s case. Consequently, Nasiru was convicted on both counts.
For the charge of sexual assault by penetration, Nasiru received a life imprisonment sentence, while for the indecent treatment of a child, he was sentenced to seven years in prison. These sentences are to be served concurrently, as per the court’s decision.
Additionally, Justice Soladoye mandated that Nasiru’s name be entered into the government’s Sexual Offenders Register, ensuring that his actions are duly recorded and monitored. This ruling serves as a stern warning against such heinous acts and upholds justice for the victim in this distressing case.
