Ammunition Worth ₦557m Seized By Customs in Garri Sacks

The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun Area 1 Command announced the interception of 940 rounds of ammunition valued at ₦557,120,828.00 hidden within sacks of garri (cassava flakes) at Idiroko in Ogun State.

During a recent press briefing, Ahmadu Shuaibu, the Area Controller, disclosed that the ammunition was discovered during an anti-smuggling operation on March 14 along the border line.

Shuaibu revealed that the Command had been tracking a smuggling syndicate from the Republic of Benin for over two weeks.

Despite heightened security measures by the smugglers, the Command’s superior security network facilitated the seizure of the items, albeit the suspects managed to escape.

In addition to the ammunition, the Command also confiscated various items including cannabis sativa, donkey skin, used clothes, and frozen poultry products, among others.

Shuaibu urged Nigerians to collaborate with the Command in combating smuggling activities, emphasizing the dangers such items pose to national security.

He reassured prospective partners of maximum security and highlighted the Command’s revenue generation efforts and achievements, attributing its success to the support from the Customs management team and other sister agencies.
