APC’s Grip on FCT Weakens as Wike’s Appointments Draw ire from Party Leaders

Expressing their dismay at the recent appointments made by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, leaders of the All Progressives Congress in the Federal Capital Territory foresee a challenging electoral landscape in 2027.

At a media gathering in Abuja, FCT party chieftains criticized Wike for what they perceive as a preference for his Peoples Democratic Party affiliates over APC members in appointments.

The appointments of notable PDP figures to key positions have fueled discontent among APC members, prompting concerns about the party’s prospects in future elections.

Abdulwahab Ekekhide, an APC chieftain in the FCT, denounced the appointments as biased and detrimental to the party’s interests, urging President Bola Tinubu to intervene.

Ekekhide emphasized the need for Wike to engage with the APC leadership and address the grievances raised by party members.

Isaac David, the APC Youth Leader in the FCT, warned of potential repercussions if the trend continues, hinting at withdrawing support for the President in the upcoming elections.

The discontent stems from a perception of neglect and marginalization of indigenous APC members in favor of outsiders favored by Wike.

The situation raises concerns about the APC’s electoral viability in the FCT and underscores the importance of addressing internal party dynamics ahead of future elections.
