Dangote Foundation Distributes 1 Million Bags of Rice, Ramadan Meals Across Nigeria

Africa’s titan of industry, Aliko Dangote, has embarked on a monumental endeavor to alleviate hunger and uplift communities across Nigeria. Through his Humanitarian Foundation, he has initiated the distribution of one million bags of rice, valued at over N13 billion, to those in dire need throughout the nation.

In a statement released by Samira Sanusi, a key figure within the foundation based in Kano, it was revealed that this massive humanitarian effort aims to touch every corner of Nigeria, spanning all 36 states and the capital, Abuja. The gesture comes as a beacon of hope amidst the prevailing challenges faced by many in the country.

Furthermore, the foundation is extending its benevolence to the Muslim community during the sacred month of Ramadan. In Kano State alone, a minimum of 10,000 fasting Muslims will receive nourishing meals to break their fast, comprising a rich assortment of dishes including jollof rice, plain rice with stew, jollof spaghetti, yam, and beans, complemented by chicken and beef. Each meal package also includes essential refreshments, ensuring that recipients are well taken care of during this auspicious period.

This remarkable initiative builds upon the foundation’s existing programs, such as the distribution of 20,000 loaves of bread to residents in Kano and 15,000 to residents in Lagos, which have been ongoing since 2020. Mrs. Sanusi highlighted that these efforts reflect Mr. Dangote’s longstanding commitment to addressing food insecurity and supporting vulnerable populations.

Notably, Mr. Dangote’s philanthropic endeavors extend far beyond recent initiatives. For over three decades, he has quietly provided food assistance to the less fortunate in Kano, initially from his mother’s home in Koki and later from various locations. Mrs. Sanusi underscored the significance of this sustained feeding program, which has been serving 10,000 Kano residents daily with breakfast, lunch, and dinner for more than 30 years, showcasing Mr. Dangote’s enduring dedication to uplifting communities and making a tangible difference in the lives of countless individuals.
