Ramadan: Kano Allocates ₦6 Billion to Provide Meals for 4 Million People

The Kano State Government has earmarked N6 billion to ensure that approximately four million vulnerable individuals receive meals during the Ramadan season.

The initiative, set to cover all 44 local government areas within the state, was revealed by Honorable Baba Dantiye, the commissioner for information and home affairs, during a press briefing in Kano on Monday.

Dantiye emphasized that within the Kano metropolis alone, consisting of eight local government areas, there are 90 designated centers including mosques, remand centers, Almajiri schools, hospitals, and Islamic schools, catering to an average of 18,000 individuals daily.

The budget encompasses expenses for food supplies, utensil rentals, cook allowances, security, firewood, and other essentials throughout the entire Ramadan period.

“We ensure each center is manned by three women for cooking and three men for security, maintaining orderliness and preventing any disturbances,” stated Dantiye.

“At each center, provisions include two bags of rice to feed approximately 200 people, supplemented by various dishes like beans cake and pap, served between 6.30pm and 7.00pm, primarily targeting those in dire need.”

He further explained, “Centers are strategically placed in areas with high population density, including Islamic schools, remand homes, hospitals, and almajiri schools, to reach those most in need.”
