Tinubu to Clean Up Cabinet, Seeks Public Input on Ministerial Performance

President Bola Tinubu has initiated a comprehensive strategy aimed at revitalizing the cabinet’s efficiency and accountability. As he approaches his one-year milestone in office, he is embarking on a meticulous three-part assessment process targeting both Ministers and leaders of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

Scheduled to coincide with the government’s one-year mark on May 29, 2024, the overarching objective is to foster public engagement, allowing citizens to contribute their insights on the performance of various Ministers. This participatory approach seeks to gauge public sentiment, aiding in the decision-making process regarding the retention or replacement of Ministers.

The official launch event, originally slated for immediate execution, has been postponed to the following week. This delay accommodates the need for thorough procedural completion by the policy coordination team, spearheaded by Hadiza Bala-Usman.

The evaluation process unfolds in three distinct phases. Firstly, members of the public will access pertinent information outlining President Tinubu’s specific objectives for each Ministry. Subsequently, they can provide feedback on Ministerial performance relative to these established targets.

The second stage involves an in-depth assessment conducted by the Policy Coordination office, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of Ministerial effectiveness. Finally, an independent panel of Consultants will offer their expert insights, adding another layer of analysis to the assessment process.

Ultimately, the combined evaluations from these three levels will serve as the cornerstone for decision-making regarding Ministerial retention or dismissal. This transparent and systematic approach underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to fostering accountability and performance excellence within his administration.
