China Reiterates Commitment to Bolstering Nigeria’s Education Sector

Yan Yuqing, the Chinese Consul-General in Lagos, has reaffirmed China’s dedication to enhancing Nigeria’s education system.

During the launch of the free Chinese Online Classroom Project donated by the Ogun-Guangdong Free Trade Zone in Igbesa, Ogun State, Yuqing emphasized the embassy’s unwavering support for education in Nigeria, recognizing its pivotal role in the nation’s future development.

In collaboration with the Chinese Ministry of Education, the Free Trade Zone Online Chinese Classroom represents a significant milestone in the cultural and economic collaboration between Nigeria and China, according to Yuqing. The project aligns with President Xi Jinping’s African development assistance, aiming to cultivate Chinese-speaking talents, bolster local economies, and foster mutual understanding.

Kevin Liu, Deputy General Manager of China-Africa Investment FZC, highlighted the program’s aim to equip university undergraduates with skills for economic empowerment, extending benefits to locals interested in learning the Chinese language.

Madame Wang Jinhong, one of the project coordinators, emphasized the initiative’s goal of bridging the gap between workers and experts by transferring knowledge through language learning.

Over 600 individuals have already registered for the classes, indicating a strong interest in enhancing technical skills and localization.

Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, Ogun State Commissioner of Education, Science, and Technology, assured the Chinese delegation of the government’s support, expressing readiness to incorporate Chinese language teaching into the curriculum.

Earlier commitments from the Chinese ambassador to Nigeria, Cui Jianchun, underscored the importance of strengthening ties between the two nations, symbolizing shared ambitions for progress and cooperation.

The launch was attended by dignitaries including Professor Li Yonghe, President of Yunnan Agricultural University; Mr Deng Yu, CEO of Guangdong New South Overseas Investment Holdings Co., Ltd; Mr Cai Guo, Vice President of China Glass Holdings Co., Ltd; and Mr Song Bin, General Manager of Senda Group Nigeria Branch.
