Former Lagos lawmakers, Mr. Dipo Olorunrinu and Sir Jude Idimogu, commend President Bola Tinubu for his bold stance against terrorism by unveiling alleged financiers of terrorism in Nigeria.
In separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos, the lawmakers lauded the Federal Government’s identification of 15 entities, including nine individuals and six Bureau De Change operators and firms, allegedly involved in terrorism financing.
According to reports from the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit, these alleged financiers were disclosed in an email titled: “Designation of Individuals and Entities for March 18, 2024,” following a meeting of the Nigeria Sanctions Committee on March 18, 2024.
Olorunrinu, who represented Amuwo-Odofin Constituency I at the Lagos State House of Assembly from 2015 to 2019, praised President Tinubu’s courageous leadership and urged further actions to apprehend and prosecute the culprits and their accomplices.
He emphasized the need for swift prosecution to deter others, highlighting the devastating impact of terrorism on innocent citizens and the nation’s development.
Similarly, Idimogu, who served Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II at the Lagos Assembly from 2015 to 2023, welcomed the government’s initiative, urging transparency in revealing the owners or shareholders of the implicated firms.
While acknowledging the significance of listing these companies, Idimogu stressed the importance of disclosing the individuals behind them to ensure accountability and justice.
He emphasized the rule of law, insisting that regardless of status, those involved in financing terrorism must be exposed and prosecuted.
