Fatal Ambush Claims Lives of 23 Soldiers in Niger Republic

Niger Republic authorities reported a deadly ambush near the borders with Burkina Faso and Mali, resulting in the death of 23 soldiers. The attack, attributed to terrorists, occurred in Tillaberi, an area known for jihadist activities.

The defence ministry stated that during a security sweep, the soldiers were attacked by around 30 terrorists who used homemade bombs and suicide vehicles. In addition to the casualties, 17 soldiers were wounded.

The attack aimed to destabilize the region, where armed groups engage in various criminal activities, including murder and extortion.

Meanwhile, in Nigeria, 16 Nigerian Army operatives were ambushed and killed in Delta State. The soldiers, part of the 181 Amphibious Battalion, were on a peacekeeping mission to quell community clashes in Bomadi Local Government of Delta State when the ambush occurred.

The incidents underscore the ongoing threat posed by terrorism and violence in the region, despite efforts by security forces to combat these challenges.
