NANS Condemns Pressure on FCET Gusau Provost, Calls for Fair Resolution

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Zamfara condemns efforts to pressure Dr. Hauwau Mukhtar Abdulkarim, the Provost of FCET Gusau, to resign.

They argue that her appointment followed due process and presidential endorsement, and any coercion undermines institutional stability and educational standards.

NANS calls for a fair resolution respecting due process and institutional autonomy, standing in solidarity with Dr. Hauwau.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Zamfara Axis strongly opposes the attempt to force Dr. (Mrs) Hauwau Mukhtar Abdulkarim, the Provost of the Federal College of Education Technical, Gusau (FCET Gusau), to resign from her position.

This pressure, reportedly initiated by the College of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), FCET Chapter undermines due process and rightful appointment of Dr. Hauwau as Provost, jeopardizing institutional stability and educational standards.

It is disheartening to witness the attempt to coerce Dr. Hauwau into relinquishing her position despite undergoing a rigorous selection process and being appointed as Provost based on merit. The appointment of Dr. Hauwau followed standard procedures and received presidential endorsement, highlighting her suitability for the role.

NANS emphasizes the importance of respecting the authority vested in the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to make appointments to leadership positions, including that of the Provost. Hence, the appointment of Dr. Hauwau was duly authorized and should not be subjected to unwarranted scrutiny or interference.

The allegations raised against her appointment lack substantial merit and should not impede to fulfil her duties. Any attempt to disrupt academic activities or coerce her resignation undermines the integrity of the institution and must be addressed promptly.

NANS calls for a fair and transparent resolution to issue, emphasizing the need to uphold due process and respect institutional autonomy. We urge all parties involved to prioritize the welfare of students and the integrity of the educational system.

NANS also stands in solidarity with Dr. Hauwau and advocates for a swift resolution that upholds the principles of fairness and legality.”
