Youth Assembly Condemns Coercive Actions Against FCET Gusau Provost

The Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN), Zamfara State Chapter, strongly condemns coercive actions against Dr. Mrs. Hauwau Gimbiya Mukhtar Abdulkarim, Provost of FCET Gusau.

The Assembly denounces gender discrimination and affirms Dr. Hauwau’s appointment as rightful and based on merit. They call for an end to coercive tactics, demand respect for Dr. Hauwau’s tenure, and advocate for gender equality in leadership roles.

YAN urges for a thorough investigation into the matter to safeguard women’s rights and promote equality in educational institutions.

In a statement Signed by Rt. Hon. Nurudeen Salisu (Maishinkapha), State Speaker, and Amb. Mahmud A. Lawal, State Ambassador, a copy of which was made available to The Spectacles on Friday.

The statement read in part; “Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN), Condemns Coercion and Gender Discrimination Against FCET Gusau Provost

The Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN), Zamfara State Chapter, vehemently condemns the coercive tactics employed against Dr. Mrs. Hauwau Gimbiya Mukhtar Abdulkarim, the Provost of the Federal College of Education Technical, Gusau (FCET Gusau).

In a Press Statement jointly signed by the State Speaker and Ambassador, the Assembly described this reprehensible act, purportedly orchestrated by some anti-gender inclusive individuals not only undermines institutional stability but also represents a grave violation of women’s rights and a clear affront to gender equality and inclusivity.

The Assembly further expressed Its dismay at the flagrant attempt to coerce Dr. Hauwau, a woman of impeccable credentials and outstanding merit, into resigning from her rightfully earned position. The appointment of Dr. Hauwau as Provost followed due process and meritocratic principles, garnering recognition for her exemplary qualifications and dedication to educational excellence.

The Youth Assembly of Nigeria underscores the imperative of upholding the authority vested in the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu to make appointments to leadership positions, irrespective of gender. Dr. Hauwau’s appointment, endorsed by the President, stands as a testament to her capabilities and should not be subjected to discriminatory practices or undue interference.

The baseless allegations levied against Dr. Hauwau by the COEASU are not only unsubstantiated but also serve to perpetuate gender discrimination and hinder progress towards gender parity in leadership roles. Therefore, the attempt to coerce her resignation not only undermines the authority of the President but also sends a chilling message about the treatment of women in positions of authority.

YAN, Zamfara State Chapter, calls for an immediate cessation of these coercive tactics against Dr. Hauwau and urges all stakeholders to respect her tenure as Provost of FCET Gusau. The Assembly demands a thorough investigation into the actions of the staff and other implicated parties, with a focus on safeguarding the rights of women and promoting gender equality in educational institutions.

The Assembly reaffirms its commitment to championing the rights of women and ensuring equal opportunities for all in leadership positions. We stand in solidarity with Dr. Hauwau and call for her continued tenure as Provost, free from unjust coercion and discriminatory practices.”
