A faction of the New Nigeria People’s Party has initiated legal proceedings at the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking to halt an alleged unauthorized national convention organized by Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso’s faction within the party.
According to court documents with suit number FHC/ABJ/CS /327/2024, obtained by our correspondent on Sunday, the NNPP accused the Kwankwaso faction, led by Abba Kawu and Dipo Olayoku, of disrupting its operations and attempting to seize control of the party leadership.
The lawsuit, filed by the Board of Trustees under Temitope Aluko’s leadership, contends that Kawu and Olayoku were expelled, and their National Working Committee dissolved in accordance with the NNPP constitution.
The party’s lawyer, Monday Mawah, has petitioned the Independent National Electoral Commission, urging it to refrain from involvement in the scheduled convention until the court resolves the matter.
Additionally, Mawah has requested the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Police Force to investigate alleged illegal activities by the Kwankwaso faction and prevent the unauthorized convention for the safety of party members.
