Terrorism: Fed Govt Invites Dr Ahmad Gumi For Questioning

The federal government has confirmed the summoning of Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Dr. Ahmad Gumi, regarding his remarks on bandit activities in the nation. Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and Orientation, made the announcement during a press briefing at the State House in Abuja on Monday.

Gumi previously criticized the government’s reliance on force to address kidnapping incidents, advocating for a more nuanced approach involving understanding and addressing the root causes of banditry.

He emphasized the need for a strategic shift away from solely kinetic tactics, suggesting a model akin to the Niger Delta amnesty initiative to rehabilitate and reintegrate bandits into society peacefully.

Gumi also highlighted the importance of intelligence gathering and understanding the structure of bandit groups to effectively combat their activities.
