Insecurity: Zamfara Govt Restricts Movement Along Katsina, Sokoto Borders

In a proactive move to address the persistent threat of kidnapping along the borders with Katsina and Sokoto states, the Zamfara State Government has announced stringent measures.

Following the decision reached at the State Security Council Meeting, Mr. Manir Haidara, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, briefed reporters in Gusau on Tuesday.

Effective immediately, the state government has implemented restrictions on movement along the Yankara border of Zamfara with Katsina state and the Bimasa Zamfara border with Sokoto state. The restricted hours are from 7:00 pm to 6:00 am daily.

Mr. Haidara emphasized that this directive aims to address the alarming rate of kidnappings targeting travelers along the Sokoto-Gusau-Funtua highway.

He underscored that the state government is resolute in its commitment to curbing banditry and ensuring the safety of citizens, particularly along critical transportation routes.

This strategic measure is part of a comprehensive approach by the state government to mitigate the prevalence of kidnapping activities perpetrated by bandits, especially along highways.
