BREAKING: Saudi Arabia Announces Eid-Al-Fitr to Hold on Wednesday

Saudi Arabia announced on Monday that the crescent moon of Shawwal has not been sighted, indicating that fasting will extend into Tuesday.

The Eid-Al-Fitr celebration is set for Wednesday, April 10, marking the start of the new Islamic month, according to an official announcement on Haramin’s Facebook page, a prominent platform for the global Muslim community.

“The crescent moon was not sighted in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, Eid-Al-Fitr will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 10, 2024,” the announcement stated.

Meanwhile, Nigerian Muslims await the announcement from the Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Sa’ad Abubakar, expected later today.

The Sultan had urged Muslims nationwide to watch for the new moon signaling the start of Shawwal 1445 AH, emphasizing the importance of promptly reporting any sightings to the relevant authorities.

“Muslims are therefore requested to start looking for the new moon of Shawwal 1445 AH on Monday and report its sighting to the nearest district or village head for onward communication to His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, the Sultan of Sokoto,” the statement reads.
