Ex-Gov Yahya Bello’s ADC Detained for Alleged Involvement in His Escape

A female police officer, who served as an aide-de-camp to the former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has been detained by the Nigeria Police Force. Alongside other police officers attached to Bello, she is being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja.

The detention comes after the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, ordered the immediate withdrawal of security details from the former governor.

Sources within the police, speaking anonymously, suggested that the officers were apprehended on suspicion of aiding Bello’s escape from Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) operatives attempting to arrest him.

The order for withdrawal of police officers from Bello was communicated through official channels, indicating the seriousness of the directive. Additionally, the Federal Government has placed Bello on a watch list for alleged conspiracy, breach of trust, and money laundering.

Bello, who is facing charges of money laundering amounting to billions of Naira, failed to appear before the court for his arraignment, prompting the EFCC to declare him wanted.

Despite the allegations against him, Bello’s media office has accused the EFCC of persecution and abuse of prosecutorial powers.
