Nadeem Anjarwalla, a Binance executive who had escaped from Nigeria, has been arrested by the Kenya Police Service. The International Criminal Police Organisation is now working on extraditing him to Nigeria within the week.
Government sources, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, confirmed the arrest on Sunday night.
One source stated, “Binance executive Nadeem Anjarwalla has been arrested by the Kenya Police Service and will be extradited to Nigeria this week by INTERPOL.”
Another source added, “As previously mentioned, Anjarwalla will be extradited. He has been apprehended in Kenya and will be extradited to Nigeria this week.”
The Federal Government had tracked Anjarwalla to Kenya after he escaped lawful custody in Nigeria.
In response to the development, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the International Criminal Police, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Kenyan Police Service have intensified discussions to expedite Anjarwalla’s extradition.
In a previous report, Anjarwalla, who is now exposed, went into hiding immediately after arriving in Kenya.
“We have located him. He is in Kenya, and we are collaborating with the authorities to bring him back to Nigeria. The government and all security agencies, in conjunction with the Kenyan authorities and INTERPOL, are working tirelessly to ensure his return to Nigeria to face the charges against him,” a source stated.
EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede, in the March edition of the commission’s bulletin titled “EFCC Alert,” confirmed that they were working with various international agencies and governments, including INTERPOL, the United States’ FBI, and the governments of the UK, Northern Ireland, and Kenya, to extradite Anjarwalla.
Olukoyede said, “The commission’s takeover of the prosecution of Binance chiefs is a strong message of EFCC’s commitment to curbing distortions and disruptions in the country’s forex market.”
“The charges against Binance Holdings Limited, Tigran Gambaryan, and Nadeem Anjarwalla include tax evasion, currency speculation, and money laundering amounting to $35,400,000,” he added.
“While Gambaryan is currently in the Commission’s custody, the process of extraditing Anjarwalla is underway. Partnering with the EFCC in this effort are INTERPOL, the FBI, and the governments of the UK, Northern Ireland, and Kenya, as we move closer to his arraignment in absentia alongside the company and Gambaryan,” Olukoyede concluded.
