Atiku Abubakar Visits Ningi, Urges N’Assembly to Resist Oppression

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President, stands in solidarity with Abdul Ningi, the suspended Bauchi Central Senator, amidst allegations of budget padding in the National Assembly. During a visit to Ningi’s residence, Atiku emphasizes the importance of the Senate resisting governmental oppression.

Ningi received a three-month suspension from the Senate on March 12, 2024. Allegedly, the budget passed by the National Assembly for 2024 was N25 trillion, while the Presidency implemented one totaling N28.7tn. Ningi claims N3tn was inserted into the budget for projects without locations, under Senator Akpabio’s watch.

However, Umeh Kalu (SAN), Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s counsel, clarifies that Ningi’s suspension was a decision of the Senate, not Akpabio.

Atiku, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, stresses the historical context of governmental oppression, urging the National Assembly not to succumb to such pressures. He reiterates the importance of public institutions, like the National Assembly, in safeguarding the interests of Nigerians.

Ningi echoes Atiku’s sentiment, emphasizing the obligation of political officeholders to prioritize the masses’ interests over personal gains, regardless of political affiliation.
