The Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has dismissed 15 district heads on grounds of alleged insubordination, involvement in land racketeering, and misappropriation of public properties.
In a statement released by the governor’s spokesman, Abubakar Bawa, on Tuesday, the affected district heads included those from Unguwar Lalle, Yabo, Wamakko, Tulluwa, llela, Dogon Daji, Kebbe, Alkammu, and Giyawa.
Additionally, six district heads, appointed under former Governor Aminu Tambuwal, were removed due to concerns over their irregular appointments and lack of acceptance by their communities. They are Marafan Tangaza, Sarkin Gabas Kalambaina, Bunun Gongono, Sarkin Kudun Yar Tsakkuwa, Sarkin Tambuwal, and Sarkin Yamman Torankavwa.
Investigations into the conduct of district heads of Isa, Kuchi, Kilgori, and Gagi have been initiated, while Sarkin Yakin Binji was transferred to Nabunkari and the District Head of Sabon Birni was reassigned to Gatawa.
Seven district heads were retained, including Aliyu Abubakar III (Chairman Sokoto), Ibrahim Maccido (Barayar Zaki), Abubakar Salame (Sarkin Arewan Salame), Aminu Bello (Sarkin Yamman Balle), Mahmoud Yabo (Sarkin Gabas Dandin Mahe), Muntari Ambarura (Sarkin Gabas Ambarura), and Isa Rarah (Sarkin Gabas Rarah).
Similarly, the district heads of Tsaki and Asare were retained, while Abdulkadir Mujeli was reinstated as Sarkin Rafin Gumbi, following recommendations from the Committees on the review of traditional rulers’ appointments.
