Harmonized Minimum Wage Package to be Announced May 29 – FG

The tripartite committee representing the federal government has indicated that the harmonized national minimum wage could be finalized on or before President Bola Tinubu’s first anniversary on May 29.

A source within the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) revealed to The Nation that the new wage will be tailored to align with the current economic situation of the nation.

Representatives of the government convened with the Bukar Goni Aji-led tripartite committee to review proposals put forward by Organized Labour regarding the minimum wage.

While specific details from the meeting were not disclosed, the source emphasized the commitment to establish a reasonable and realistic minimum wage, with further meetings scheduled in the coming days to ensure progress towards the May 29 deadline.

The focus remains on addressing the economic realities faced by Nigerian workers, with efforts directed towards reaching a consensus that will positively impact the populace.

Vice President Kashim Shettima inaugurated the tripartite committee on January 30 at the State House, Abuja, comprising representatives from federal and state governments, Organized Labour, and the private sector.
