Zamfara Govt Enforces Compulsory Registration Of Vehicles

In its move to enhance security measures in the region, the Zamfara state government has enforced compulsory registration of both private and commercial vehicles in the state, the decision was taken in response to the ongoing security challenges bedeviling the state.

According to the Director Transport in the Ministry of works and infrastructure, Alhaji M.A. Kanoma said the measure became imperative considering the current security challenge bedeviling the State.

This was contained in a statement signed and issued to The Spectacles by the Public Relatios Officer, ZIRS, Sanusi Ibrahim S/yamma, said the Director Transport, who spoke during the weekly phone-in programme being aired on Zamfara State Radio and Television Service Gusau sponsored by Zamfara State Internal Revenue Service was speaking in collaboration with State Internal Revenue Service to sensitize the owners and drivers of different vehicles especially, Keke Napep and Okada operating in the State with a view to sanitizing transportation business and fish out bad eggs that use the business to carry out their ugly trend.

The Executive Director in the Internal Revenue Service, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulnasir Mafara who represented the Executive Chairperson Hajiya Rakiya Ahmed Dodo at the programme, spoke extensively on the importance of registration of vehicles and dangers attached to the non compliance especially in this trying time.

The Chairmen of the two associations in the state invited to the programme, Keke Napep and Okada also called on their members to be law abiding citizens by complying with the laid down rules and regulations for the sustained peace and tranquility in the State.

Director Information and Intelligence gathering of the Board, Alhaji Hadi Bawa Gusau and that of Other Taxes, Alhaji Mu’azu Bungudu commented on the issue, citing examples with how some unscrupulous elements use Keke Napep and Okada business to lunch terrorism, Kidnapping and other criminal activities in the society, hence the need for the owners of all Vehicles both private and commercial ones to adhere to the law and register their vehicles as doing so can assist the authority to know the data and identify the genuine members of the associations.

During the programme many callers from different places of the State called and contributed with suggestions and questions on how to solve problems regarding the issue.

The programme was successfully conducted and attended by the Deputy Director Informational and Intelligence gathering as well as Public Relatios Officer of the Board, Sanusi Ibrahim S/yamma among others.
